Captain Horace Chamberlain King was born at Guildford and educated at Claremont. He embarked for service abroad in June, 1915, as Sergeant in C Company, 28th Battalion. Be saw service on Gallipoli and later in France, where he was promoted to 2nd; Lieutenant, and later was awarded the M.C. When his senior officers were rendered helpless he led company with great coolness and skill in a charge, which resulted in the capture of 127 prisoners. He was later promoted to 1st Lieutenant, and then Captain and Adjutant to the 28th Battalion. He died of wounds in the 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital on the 7th April, 1918.^3,4

Honours*

He was awarded the Military Cross (MC) in 1916 at France 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. When his senior officers had become casualties, he took command and led his company with great coolness and skill under very heavy fire. On another occasion he led a party of about twenty five against the enemy, took twenty seven prisoners, and, charging forward, entered the next enemy trench and captured it with 100 prisoners.'
