Wed 14 October 1891 West Australian THE funeral of Mrs. Adams, who died the other day at Fremantle at the advanced age of 96, took place yesterday. The funeral procession was a very large one: and included nearly all; the prominent townspeople of Fre- mantle. The pall-bearers were the Com- missioner of Crown Iands (Hón. W. E. Marmion), Mr. W. S. Pearse, M.L.A., the Mayor of Fremantle (Mr. E. Solomon), and the Hon. W. D. Moore, M.L.C. The remains were interred in the old burial ground at South Fremantle. |

Death of An Old Resident. Mrs. Mary Ann Davies, relict of the late Mr. William David Davies, of Fremantle, and probably the oldest Western Australian in the State, passed away on the 17th inst. at Fremantle in her 82nd year. Her father, Mr. William Adams (who was a Waterloo veteran) arrived at Fremantle in the ship Parmella, the first ship that brought settlers to Western Australia, in the year 1829. The expedition was in charge of Governor Stirling, the first Governor of the State. Mrs. Davies was born in 1831 at Garden Island, and has lived in this State up till the time of her death. In 1849 she married Mr. William Davis Davies, who pre-deceased her by 12 years. She leaves a grown-up family of four sons, five daughters, 52 grandchildren, and 17 greatgrand children to mourn their loss. The long funeral cortege moved from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. R. Rushby, Douro-road, South Fremantl, on Thursday afternoon and proceeded to the local Church of England cemetery, where the remains were interred with those of her husband. The chief mourners were Messrs. James, John, Fred and Harry Davies (sons): Mesdames R. Rushby, J. Houlahan (representing the daughter, Mrs. T. Lowden. M. Reinhardt, T. Harris, and J. Hurlstone (daughters), Mrs. S. Hall and Mrs. E. Sweetman (sisters), Mesdames F. and H. Davies (daughters-in-law), Mr. S. Hall (brother-in-law), Messrs. E. Harris and M. Reichardt (sons-in-law) Messrs .T Ryan, McGuiness, F. Howsen, J. Wright, M. Gleeson; the Misses Edith Rushby, May Hurlstone, Jessie Davies, and B. Harris (granddaughters), Messrs. Fred. and Frank Sweetman, J. Ryan. Otto Kelly, George and Frank Rushby, Max and Harry Davies, Preston Cook, Max Reichardt, and Charles and Reginald Sweetman (grandsons): Mes dames H. Gilmore and W. Adams (nieces); Messrs. Harry and William Adams and Alex. Chamberlain (nephews). and many others. The pall-bearers were Mr. J. C. Brown (Inspector of Fisheries), and Messrs. W. Ford, J. Fahey, J. P. Cook, H. Gilmore and J. Willis. Numerous wreaths were placed on the grave and a large number of letters, telegrams, cards, etc., expressing sympathy have been received by the rela tives. The Rev.
