Private Newton Butterworth (5816) is a son of Louisa, and the late William Butterworth. He was born in Midland Junction and educated in Claremont. On the 4th May, 1918, he was married to Valentine Deforiet, daughter of Clementine and Martha Deforiet, of Marcinelle. He enlisted on the 5th April, 1916 an,d was attached to the 28th Battalion at Blackboy Camp. He left Fremantle in September, 1916, and arrived in England in November, proceeding to Salishury Camp. After completing his training, he crossed over to France, and was there until he was wounded at, Lagnicourt, in February, 1917, and sent into hospital. After the Armistice was signed he was sent back to Australia, arriving here on the 9th September, 1919. Prior to enlistment he was engaged in business as a grocer.4,1
