Milit-Beg* | Walter (Dick) Ashworth began military service on 19 August 1915 at York, Western AustraliaG, 1689, Driver, 10th Field Artillery Brigade, Army Driver Walter Ashworth (1689) was born at York, W.A., on the 27th September, 1895. He is the son of Charles and Sarah Ashworth, John-street, Northam. He enlisted on the 19th August, 1915, and sailed with the 10th Light Horse for Port Suez on the 13th October, 1915. After some months with the Light Horse, he was transferred to the 4th Division Artillery, and sailed for France in June, 1916. In January, 1917, he was taken to Bethnal Green Hospital, London, suffering with pneumonia. He remained there until June, 1917, when he returned to France, and shortly after joined the 38th Battery, and remained there until the finish. In March, 1919, he left France for England, and after six weeks there sailed for Australia, landing at Fremantle on the 1st June, 1919'. He was discharged on the 24th July, 1919.4,5 |
