Thinking back to the days of Grandfather and Grandmother Cooper. Grandfather a happy go lucky man. Grandmother a kind sweet and lovely lady. How I loved her. I will write some of the things she told me of their life in Fremantle. Grandfather learned his trade as a Taylor in Bond St. London. He and Grandmother were married six weeks when they migrated to Western Australia and settled in Fremantle I cannot remember - but I think about 1840 Grandfather opened a shop. I was told the first Taylor shop in Fremantle as the shop was a two-storey building they lived in the top part where the Cooper family were born. Nine children in all. My father George Cooper being the eldest son learned to be a Taylor and helped his father together with several other men Grandfather employed. About 1880 Grandfather had an accident which caused him to go blind for three years. Grandfather's eye- sight returned and he bought five cars and ran a bus service from Fremantle to Perth he also had the contract for the mail service and passenger coach to Rockingham which my uncle Harry Cooper had until his death 192? I remember the Rockingham Coach leaving Fremantle Post Office nine o'clock Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, returning six o'clock in the evening with passengers and the mail from Rockingham.
