..took up leasehold then freehold land comprisong good loamy soil on jam and York gum country north of "Margerin" known as Dalbernaligan. Forward, whose selection was undulating with craggy granite outcrops, aptly named his property "Silver Hills". By 1887 he had some land cleared and ploughed. He was soon after grazing sheep as far north as Cowcowing.
Selectors who chose land in 1890 near Goomalling included Andrew John Hoddy (1862-1944) and Patrick Hennessy (1845-1920). Hoddy, who wedded Annie, second daughter of James York Forward, carved an "H" on a tree trunk to mark the western boundary of his 500 acre block situated north of Red Gully Brook in portion of pastoral runs previously held by A.B. Lockyer and G. Slater. He named his farm "Blurton" (page 77)

..Prior to this time medical attention was sought from Northam or from "Sunlight Hospital" in a mud brick building, formerly the farm house of James Forward and Horace Lockyer, located a short distance south of Goomalling on the Northam Road. (page 106)

..One of the first to recognise the potential of "Oak Park" was James York Forward who, in 1899 sold his "Silver Hills" farm and subsequently purchased land at "Oak Park". The property he took up on the Goomalling-Oak Park Road is now owned by Terry Schell. The slender built, agile James Forward, although illiterate, possessed a remarkably intamate knowledge of the bush and became the district land guide. (page 167)

..A cricket club was formed at Oak Park in 1904 when Eddy Bufton was elected as its chairman...Early players included J. Forward, T. Bywaters, E Bufton......
..to form the Oak Park Progress Association. The inaugural meeting , held on 20 February, 1909 at the home of James Forward, was attended by Messrs James Forward senior and junior, A.E. fair, E. Bufton, T. Bywaters, F. Lord, Alfred Watson and J.A. White. James Forward senior was elected chairman. (page 172)
