As school boys we were warned not to rile him when he was delivering wheat to the Minnivale Silo. We were told that he had an angry temper. I never saw evidence of it as I steered clear of him. Aunty Ruth - One of natures truly delightful creatures, so placid and kind. You were lucky to have a grandmother such as her. Spoilt myself and brothers to a high degree when ever families visited. |

Funeral Notice 26/10/1943 Bradley - The friends of the late Francis Mortimer Bradley, of 6 Eileen St, Cottesloe, and late of Dowerin, beloved husband of Catherine, are respectfully informed that his remains will be interred in the Wesleyan Cemetery, Karrakatta at 11 o'clock tomorrow (Wednesday). Recollections...Alwyn Robert Smith Nov 2001 My boyhood memories and impressions of my Great Grandfather Frances Mortimer Bradley and his immediate family. The period from 1932 to 1940. Frank Bradley... I well remember him as a sprightly upstanding gentleman who carried himself with an erect position even though he was approaching seventy years of age. He had a head of white hair and a handle bar moustache. He chose his words carefully and I never heard him engage in arguement or express his views in a loud manner. I never saw him partake of alcohol. I spent a number of short holiday breaks a the Bradley farm situated on the Dowerin-Wyalkatchem road. My biggest thrill was to journey with him in his Fiat motor cars of which he owned two (not at the same time). He had a penchant for Fiats whilst the rest of the district owned either Peacock Chevrolets or Ford Ts of As. He took me with him perched up on the front seat and on odd occassions he allowed me to blow the horn, what a thrill!!! The purpose of the trips was to either purchase goods from George Allanson's Universal Providers in Dowerin or head to the Minnivale Co-op. Top speed over rough gravel roads would have been 25 miles per hour (about 40 kilometre per hour). Grandma Bradley, I must admit I never knew her christian name, was a well organised lady who spoilt me and my brothers Ian and Desmond when we visited them. |
