He followed the party accross No Man's Land and into the Boach trenches, where he took part in the fight and killed 2 Germans himself. He, single-handed, dressed two wounded men in the enemy trenches, and carried home on his back another wounded man. Throughout the whole operation he displayed wonderful bravery and coolness in his work and set a great example to his comrades. He is worthy of the highest commendation. A total of 5 Officers and 100 other ranks took part in this raid.'
