From notes of Ian Lloyd:
Dorothy (Dorrie) Dews was the oldest daughter. From a early age she became a good cook. When the parents went into town for the day in the jinker, to shop, she used to bake cakes for the others and of course they all had to be eaten before the parents returned. One day they arrived home before the cream puffs were quite cooked and they rushed outside with them and hid under the tank stand, what a waste of lovely cream puffs. When her parents died from pneumonic plaque within a day of each other, Reg came to live with Dorrie and her family, and died from there. She was also good to her other sisters, as they were not married then. Reg was always credited with teaching Joyce to walk, as it was at this time that he lived with us. Alwyn was always terrified of Reg's motor-bike. Dorrie was a great family historian and used to arrange Dews family get-togethers. She used to tell us kids many stories about her family and their pranks. But of course we weren't interested then and never wrote them down. She also used to recite her Father's ditties. She worked as post mistress at Gnotuk Post Office and later worked for Mr. and Mrs Aitken, manager of Union Bank in Camperdown as housekeeper-cook, until her marriage. Later in life Dorrie developed accute blood pressure, which Doctors were unable to control, this led to heart failure attacks, and for the last 10 years of her life she was unable to do anything at all, and Alex looked after her wonderfully well, doing the cooking and housekeeping for her. She suffered a severe stroke in her 66th year and passed away 5 days later, never having regained conciousness.
